May 18, 2015

I devour food like Garfield is devouring food. I love reading because once you start reading great books its addicting and you cant stop. If I have any free time I read. You will always see me on my phone, you probably think I'm on twitter or some social media site but no I'm usually reading. I always get lost in books at the beach because its one of my favorite places and its so relaxing and an easy place to read. I could spend hours there and not even realize it. My goals in the future  for reading has to be to read more classics.

I think blogging is busy work. I don't think there has been a good part about blogging I dread every other Monday because of it. I think it is good to make your reading life public but no body ever goes on my blog so I don't think it has a purpose if no one sees it. I don't have any suggestions for next year because I bet most of the kids will not like it just like everyone this year.

I am relieved that this year is almost over. I did it I survived my first year of high school. I have grown as a student academically, all my grades this year have been really good and I am proud of that. I also have grown as a person. I am starting to really think about my future and what I want in life. My goals for next year are to get more involved in clubs at school and try to get all A's. I want to study more and read harder books. I will miss our English class next year. I love my teacher and her way of teaching. She is one of the few teachers that I will never forget.

"Something to remember for Thanksgiving"

In "Something to remember for Thanksgiving" Mary Schmich wanted the readers to take away that even if you have little you still have something and you should be thankful for that. The author writes this, "We don't have money. But we are not poor. Poverty is a state of mind." Her father said this and the author wants us to think about poverty and remember to always be thankful and she got the message across by using cool diction and syntax methods. She wants society to be thankful for what they have.

" Man of the Streets; in 3 Suites"

In " Man of the Streets; in 3 Suites" Steve Lopez wants to show readers that society really only cares if  you are good enough and if the person with the same talent does the same thing but no one cares it shows that we need headliners to know that that person is good . I got the meaning in this sentence " You're a young man, strong, you could get a job. You're a musician and you should encourage someone else. You can't encourage no one looking like that…. Look at all that talent" I agree what this column says

''In a word, a slice of perspective''

In '"In a word, a slice of perspective" ,mary schmich wants you to know that there will always be someone smarter, prettier, better than you but that shouldn't matter because in society we all try to the be the best but we really need to just be us. She wrote, "...But in this world of cyclones and earthquakes, a lot of us have potato chips to spare." This is how she ends her column and I think its very powerful and gets her message across.

"A Spring of Verbena and The Gifts of a Great Teacher"

In A Spring of Verbena and The Gifts of a Great Teacher" Kathleen Parker wants readers to know that you will always remember the people that teach you the most important things to you. In the column she writes this , " Obama is right about the power of teachers. Thank you, Mr. Gasque. " this shows her experience and how they impact people.

" Holiday Season Summons Memories of Good Deeds"

" Holiday Season Summons Memories of Good Deeds"  Tara Dixon Engle wants readers to saver the moments. In the column she writes this "
"The hug they shared made the moment all the more special,"Dilts said."It was a day I’ll never forget." this shows that the littlest things in life make people the happiest.

The Elite
 By: Kiera Cass

This is the second book in the selection series. The selection is now down to 6 girls.  I am about 50 pages in and America is having mixed emotions between the boys but I have a prediction on who she will pick . Prince Maxon or Aspen, her first love.

I predict that she will pick Prince Maxon because she is starting to get jealous of the other girls and reveal more of her feelings for Maxon. I feel like she always has had Aspen and she isn't in love with him but she loves him like a brother.

I love how the author describes the characters and they are feeling. I also think her plotline is really interesting it is not your normal teen fiction/ young adult  book.  It kind of reminds me of the bachelor. Anyways I am really into these books they got me hooked on day one because I have to know what happens.

The Selection
By: Kiera Cass
I rate this book 5 out of 5. I really enjoyed it. The author had a great idea and there are not a lot of books like this. It kind of reminded me of The Bachelor because of the concept. This book will be liked more by girls because it has to do with falling in love.

The main character America is already in a secret relationship with a boy from home but her mom is pressuring her to go into the selection( a completion with 35 girls so the prince can find one to marry) because this time period is in the future and they have a rank and she is in one of the lower ones and her mom wants her to go so they can become a one and help them. When she gets there she hates the prince and has trouble fitting in but  in the book her and the prince become friends because she is  still in love with the boy from home but her feelings start to change but then her boy from home comes to work in the palace and she is torn between the two boys. Her first love or a prince that can give her a better life.

I read the books Just one day and Just one year by Gayle Forman. I loved her If I stay series so I had to check out her other books and they were just as good. If you loved If I stay you will fall In love with this book series.

In Just One day ,Allyson meets an amateur Dutch actor Willem during her post-HS culture tour of Europe and with a spontaneity unnatural to her throws away all her caution and embarks on a day trip to Paris with him. They spend a day together, and then it's over, abruptly. Allyson goes back home then, starts college. Her already depressed state is made even more severe by hardships in college, intense helicopter parenting and lack of friends. But her experiences during that one day in Paris eventually encourage her to change her life in a major way and go back to Paris....

You have to read  Just One Year to see if their journey continues....

                                                                 Dover Beach Extension

Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Bowles walked home together. Mrs. Phelps still had tears streaming down her face. " Now why are you still crying?" Mrs. Bowles exclaimed, She continued her rant -" I can't believe Montag had the nerve to read that poem to us. You know what I think ...I should turn that man in! It is unacceptable. "NO!" Mrs.. Phelps shouted as they walked up to Mrs. Bowles house. " Think about that poem, doesn't it make you sad. I feel empty like I'm mourning something but I don't  know what! Is it happiness? Suddenly I'm not happy anymore, I have been thinking I don't think I have been happy for a long time." Mrs. Phelps desperately explained. " Hmmm... I'm happy I don't feel any different. See you later" Mrs. Bowles said walking into her house.
Mrs. Phelps turns back around wanting to see Montag maybe he will read more to her. Something inside her snapped and she needed answers. Banging on Montag's door, he answered with a scowl on his face and before he could say anything Mrs. Phelps told him she wanted to hear more... she needed to read the books.

                                                                My Life Next Door
                                                                By: Huntley Fitzpatrick

This is a fantastic book about friendship, family, first love and trust.

My Life Next Door is the kind of story that you expect to be light and fluffy but then it surprises you.
I thought this book would be very cliché: little rich girl falls for the boy next door; gets a whole new perspective on life through the eyes of a financially-strained, but very happy — unlike her own — family; but she learns so much about her self and her family.

Something bad happens with her mom and her boyfriend that threatens a life of Jase's  family member and when she finds out the truth she has to do the right thing. Is it to keep her moms secret or tell the truth and jeopardize her  relationship.
